The Robotics Elective provides an opportunity for you to explore the fundamentals of computer
programming and its ‘real world’ application. In this Elective we define ‘programming’ as creating a series of coded software instructions to control the operation of a robot.
The Robotics Elective has clear benefits:
■ If you have previous experience through school, it provides you with an opportunity to further
develop your skills and knowledge in this field, potentially beyond your current level.
■ If you do not have access to robotics learning at school, it provides an opportunity to gain your first exposure to robotics and to explore this field as a potential area of interest for further
development beyond the ANC.
Most importantly it includes topics that support the development of knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). As you progress through each level of the Elective, you will learn more about the functionality of robots and apply this through building and programming more complex robots. You will use a Robotics Kit to construct and program several robots that have different purposes or perform different tasks.
