Defence treats the protection of youth involved in Defence youth engagement and development programs as a paramount consideration.

Australian Navy Cadet’s Commitment to a Youth Safe Culture

The ANC puts the safe development and wellbeing of our cadets at the forefront, with all members working together with a common sense of purpose and a shared vision, upholding our ADF cadet values and inclusive culture.

Operating in accordance with Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, the ANC’s inclusive culture ensures that by the way we act we offer a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for young people to grow and develop.

ANC Youth Policy sits within the Defence Youth Safety Framework in the Defence Youth Policy Manual (YOUTHPOLMAN) and provides the guidelines for engaging with youth.  The YOUTHPOLMAN parts 1, 2 & 3 can be found on the Defence Youth HQ website, www.defenceyouth.gov.au

Youth Safe Environment

Through the ANC’s welcoming and inclusive environment, we ensure that all young people are treated with respect, regardless of background, ability or social status. Through the stability, structure and guidance provided by the ANC, our cadets are listened to and supported. In everything we do, the guiding principle is to ensure that the needs of our cadets are understood and we all conduct ourselves appropriately at all times.

The Defence youth safe vision:

“Defence’s engagement with youth is conducted in an environment which assures the health, protection and wellbeing of youth and in a manner that delivers a positive experience for youth.

(YOUTHPOLMAN Chapter 1, Section 2.1.2)

The ANC’s youth safe culture is achieved through ongoing education, mentoring and counselling, continued review and support to ensure the organisation is meeting legislative child-safe requirements.
